Here are some things you might want to know about:

OK, LET’S TRY THIS AGAIN!
Last week, the FCC published a Public Notice for statiohs to pay their yearly fees. Unfortunately, the website had a number of errors which give incorrect amounts for payment. The FCC said “don’t pay yet” and took the site (CORES) offline. They have now said the numbers are correct and stations should pay, right away – DEADLINE is 9/26 – to navigate the CORES two-step filing. Go ahead and pay, carefully!  (FYI: LPFM’s are not “feeable,” but this is among the errors not said to be corrected as yet.)

FORM ONE LOOMS
As we have been noting, the FCC requires each station to file Form One on the ETRS website by October 4th. Largely this is just verifying who is the current local EAS contact and what receiver you have, what firmware version. Since it is an FCC website, just get it done before the last week, if you can.

BUT IS IT LEGAL?
With the FCC pulling back most inspections during the pandemic and many state ABIP programs slowing, a lot of “routine inspections” by station personnel have either become perfunctory or ignored. (It did not help that the FCC Self Inspection lists had not been updated in over 13 years.) Recently, the SBE has produced what they say is an update to identify and explain the Rules as they apply to station operations. And, that is our topic for tomorrow’s Lunch Gathering with special guest Mike Langner.
